Scout Camp – Cappanalea

0221Scout Camp took place from 23rd to 30th June at Cappanalea, near Killorglin in Co. Kerry.  One of the aim was to improve the Adventure Skills levels and Scoust were awarded improved stages in Camping, Hillwaking, Paddling and Pioneering and well as starting two new skills in Sailing and Air Activities.  The programme included Kayaking, Canoeing, Raft buildling, Windsurfing, Sailing, Hillwalking, Rock Climbing and Abseiling.  There was also a  day trip to Crag Cave in Castle Island, Farranfore Airport and the Aquadome in Tralee.   Click here for photos

 

Cub Camp – Cuskinny

0067Our Cub camp was to Cuskinny Court, near Cobh from 25th to 27th May. Activities included Raft-builing, Archery, Cooking in the Wild, Asult Course, Oreinteering, Slippery Slope, Bouncy Castles and a Campfire with smores !

Visit to Lord Mayor

The Group visited the Lord Mayor, Cllr Terry Shannon in the City Hall on 16th May.  After a reception in the Council Chamber the Lord Mayor described his time in scouts and the friend he made.  The Group made some presentattions, of a 38th Cork neckerchief, Scout Whistle, Scout Penknife, and Flowers for the Lady Mayoress.  The Lord Mayor was quizzed on some merit badges and was awarded a special framed Public Speaking & Civics Merit Badges.  He then invited all the scout to see his office and the board room and took time to chat with all the scouts.

Cub Camp 2012

The location for this years cub camp is Cuskinny Court in Cobh.  It will be held from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th May 2012.  This years programme continues our water based activities with Raft Building.  This is our first occasion camping in Cuskinny and we are looking forward to it.

 

Scout Camp 2012

This years scout camp is taking place in Cappanlea, Co. Kerry from Saturday 23rd to Saturday 30th June 2012.  We will be camping for the 7 nights and have access to a great range of on-site adventure activities.  This is a great opportunity for scouts to work at achieving some higher levels of some of the Adventure Skills.

Invitation to Visit Lord Mayor

The Lord Mayor, Cllr. Terry Shannon, has invited the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures, Leaders and members of the Group Council to visit him in the City Hall on Wednesday 16th May 2012.

All those attending are asked to meet outside the City Hall (Anglesea Street Entrance) at 5.45pm in uniform. The visit will begin at 6pm and shoudl be completed between 7.15pm and 7.30pm.

The Group is delighhted to accept the invitation, especially as Cllr Shannon was a former Scout in the Group in Ballinlough.

Swimming Night

The 38th Cork and 40th Cork Cubs are going to Lesiureworld in Bishopstown this Monday night from 6.45pm to 8.15pm for a swimming night.  All cubs must wear their neckerchief (uniform is not required).  They must also bring swimming gear, a towel, swim hat and €3 for the entry fee and a €1 coin for lockers (this is refundable).   Cubs must check in with one of the leaders in the foyer of Leisureworld.  Parents colelcting, are asked to call into the foyer of Leisureworld at 8.15pm and check the cubs out with one of teh leaders present.

40th Cubs win County Quiz

0001The 40th Cub Scouts won the County Cub Quiz for the second year in  a row after a nail biting tie-breaker finish.  The event was held in Frankfield’s hall and the 40th’s ‘A’ team beat Blackrock by one point in a tie-break round.  Congratulation to the team and all teh aprticpants and 74th Cork Frankfield for running another suber event

Orienteering

0004The 40th Cubs and the Scouts are participating in an orienteering competition this Sunday 20th November in Glenbower Woods in Killeagh.  The Cubs will have their own competition and the scouts are participating in the Cork South County annual orienteering competition.  Each Group has an allocated start time so check with your leaders what time you are to be present.

Tour of Fire Station

This Thursday 3rd November we are getting a tour of the Fire Station in Anglesea Street.  We are meeting in uniform outside the fire station at 7.20pm and will be finished by 8.20pm.  We would appreciates some extra supervision on the night, so if any parents are able to stay with us for the tour, that would be great.
