The works in the area directly behind the Scout Hall have now been completed. The works involved the removal of existing scrub and hedging which was overgrown. The trees were left in place and the space was tidied up by creating a bank with railways sleepers. Bamboo shielding was added to the fencing between this space and the apartment complex next door. An all weather (astro turf) surface was laid installed in the area between the Scout Hall and the Youth Centre Extension. The existing small floodlight were replaced with 4 large energy efficient fittings. The remaining grassed area has been retained for tent pitching and pioneering.
County Hillwalk – Killarney

Scout Hillwalk in Co. Kerry
This Sunday 13th February there will be a beginners walk and and advanced walk in Killarney. We are meeting at Douglas Court Shopping Centre at 8.30am to get the bus, as this is a County event. We should be back in Douglas Court by 5pm. The cost will be €10 per scout. Scouts should wear appropriate clothes for hillwalking, their neckerchief and being a packed lunch including a hot drink.
Mystery Hike
On Thursday 17th February, the 40th Cubs and the Scouts will be going on a mystery hike. Details of where to meet will be revealed at next weeks meetings. There will be no 40tg Cub meeting on Monday 14th February and the Scout meeting on 17th will be replaced with the mystery hike. Remember…..Be Prepared !!
Scout Quiz
The Scout County Quiz is taking place on Sunday 6th February 2011 at 6.30pm in Franfield Community Centre. The team should meet at 6.20 in uniform outside the hall. The quiz is expected to take about 2 hours.
Annual Toy Mass Postponed
Due to the poor weather conditions and expected icy roads, the Annual Toy Mass scheduled for Wednesday 1st December in Passage West has been postponed. The event will now take place on Wednesday 8th December instead.
Scout Quiz
The Scout County Quiz playoffs will take place in Frankfield Community Centre on Sunday 5th December at 7pm. Each troop can enter 2 teams and scouts should be present in uniform.
County Toy Mass
This year our annual Toy Mass will be held in Passge West. All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Venture Scouts are requested to meet at the Church at 7.15pm in uniform. Each family should bring a toy wrapped up and marked boy or girl. The mass commences at 7.30pm and should be finished by 8.15pm. Parents are welcome to join us for this annual event.
The Scout Shop – New Location
The Scout Shop which was located in McCurtain Street for many years, has moved. It’s new location is 23/24 Paul Street in the premises of the former Great Outdoors Shop (near McDonald’s in Daunt Square). The new shop includes two floors of outdoor, hiking and camping gear and one floor dedicated to Scout Uniforms, Badges, Books and Gear etc. If you have any queries about any items in stock you can contact them on 021-4276382
12 Days of Christmas Draw
Tickets for the annual 12 Days of Christmas Draw are being distributed to all sections this week. The group hopes that all families in the group will be able to sell a book of tickets. This is an important fundraiser for the group as it funds 10% to 15% of our annual running costs. Tickets can be returned on your usual meeting night, but no later than Friday 26th November 2010 as the ticket stubs need to be sent to Dublin in time for the first draw.
