The 40th Cub Scouts won the County Cub Quiz for the second year in a row after a nail biting tie-breaker finish. The event was held in Frankfield’s hall and the 40th’s ‘A’ team beat Blackrock by one point in a tie-break round. Congratulation to the team and all teh aprticpants and 74th Cork Frankfield for running another suber event
Orienteering
The 40th Cubs and the Scouts are participating in an orienteering competition this Sunday 20th November in Glenbower Woods in Killeagh. The Cubs will have their own competition and the scouts are participating in the Cork South County annual orienteering competition. Each Group has an allocated start time so check with your leaders what time you are to be present.
Tour of Fire Station
This Thursday 3rd November we are getting a tour of the Fire Station in Anglesea Street. We are meeting in uniform outside the fire station at 7.20pm and will be finished by 8.20pm. We would appreciates some extra supervision on the night, so if any parents are able to stay with us for the tour, that would be great.
October Bank Holiday
There will be no Beaver Scout or Cub Scout meeting Monday, 31st October (Halloween) as it is a Bank Holiday.
Scout Camp
BBQ & Wet Activities to end the year !
Monday – 27th June is the last meeting of the 40th Cub Scouts before the summer break. Cubs should wear shorts & t-shirt and their neckerchief and bring a change of clothes and a towel. In addition a water pistol or empty plastic water / lemonade bottle would be useful ! Meeting is at the usual time at the Scout Hall.
we would like to thank all the parents and famililes for tehir support and help during the year, at our meetings and outdoor activities, cooking night, spy hunt, hikes etc. The ONE programme has emphasied the Plan-Do-Review and greater youth involvment in the programme planning and implementation. Our reviews have been very posotive, so we hope that everyone enjoyed the year.
Finally we would like to wish Zac & Luke good luck as the move to Scouts in September and we everybody a great summer holiday.
Summer Hike – Kerry Way
Our summer hike, takes place this Saturday – 18th June. We are walking part of the Kerry Way from Galweys Bridge to Torc Waterfall along part of the old Kenmare to Killarney Road and through the National Park. The hike is open to all cubs and their parents. You need to confirm attendance to your section leaders by text before Thursday 16th June to book you place on the bus.
The bus will leave the Scout Hall at 8.45am and participants should bring a back pack with a packed lunch, hot drink and bottle of water. Particpants should also bring a change of clothes (which can be left on the bus) and a rain jacket. We should be back at the Scout Hall at 5pm.
Sports Day Rescheduled
The Sports and Fun Day that was cancelled on Saturday last – June 11th, due to the bad weather, has been rescheduled from Monday 20th June at Ballinlough Park (by the Swimming Pool) at 6pm.
Macaoimh Camp 2011
Our camps for 2011 was agin held in Garretstown, with this years activities to included Surfing and Body Boarding as well as our campfire and BBQ. The weather on Saturday was a bit wet and windy – which was great for surfing, but it meant our campfire had to be held indoors – luckily we wer able to light our campfire the hearth of a large old fireplace.

Macaoimh Cup – Outdoor Competition
The Outdoor Competition section of the Macaoimh Cup will take place on Sunday 17th April 2011 in Kilcully campsute from 10.20am to 4.15pm. All macoimh should bring a packed lunch, and wear their neckechief and bring something to wear for their theme.
